Simont Braun promotes Nikita Tissot and Renaud van Melsen to counsel

BRUSSELS, April 3, 2023 – Simont Braun is delighted to announce that the firm has promoted Nikita Tissot [1] and Renaud van Melsen [2] to the position of counsel, effective April 1st. These appointments are a recognition of their roles within the firm and their respective practices in particular.

Nikita Tissot [1] started her legal career in 2016 and joined Simont Braun in 2018. She built a solid experience in corporate law, including the implementation of the UBO and ESG regulation, and provides guidance in this regard, in particular to shareholder groups and listed companies in complex governance issues. She has also developed a broad expertise in M&A transactions and private equity operations.

In addition to her practice as corporate lawyer, Nikita is an assistant at the UCLouvain university in corporate law and editorial secretary at RPS-TRV. She also co-launched the ESG Committee within our firm.

Nikita has contributed to a number of publications on various corporate law matters, including the book “Précis du droit des sociétés“, and articles on shareholders’ liability, implementation in Belgium of the Shareholder Rights Directive, practical aspects of usufruct on shares and the impact of seller’s knowledge on M&A transactions.

Renaud van Melsen [2] launched his legal career in 2005 at Simont Braun, where he quickly established a reputation in public and administrative law. Over the years, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of a range of specialised fields, including public procurement, urban planning, and environmental law. He has also acquired skills in specific areas such as expropriation and public access to information.

Thanks to his extensive expertise, Renaud’s practice has since expanded to encompass a broad spectrum of legal areas, including appeals before the Supreme Court, public authorities liability, and local taxation. Renaud’s ability to apply his deep legal knowledge and strategic insight to complex cases has earned client’s confidence. His commitment to providing clear, concise advice in all situations has cemented his reputation as a trusted legal advisor.

He is also an effective member of the Brussels Commission for Access to Administrative Documents and a substitute member of the Regional Development Commission.

From 2005 to 2018, Renaud has been involved in important scientific activity at the UNamur (ex-FUNDP). He has written a number of publications on various administrative law matters.

Renaud is also fluently trilingual (FR, NL, EN).
